And so, inevitably, another nature photography site takes its' place in an already over-crowded internet. Too crowded for yet another nature photography site? Possibly.
What I think there is room for is a UK identification site, a place where good quality photographic images are on hand to help anyone (including other photographers)seeking out identification of a particular insect or flower, - a site that covers as much of the UK fauna and flora as possible.
An impossible job for any one person or small group of photographers to achieve BUT if every UK nature photographer was involved then surely this could have the makings of a very large resource.
Each time an identified flower, insect, bird is added to the ID gallery it adds to the resources for others who may be searching out the name of that plant or insect etc.

What's here
The site is divided into 4 main sections :
1:- Fauna ID - The main gallery for insects, mammals, aquatic life etc.
This will be broken up into as many relevant classes as appropriate (though some may be combined for ease of use).
2:- Flora ID - As above but related to plantlife.
3:- Forum where the discussion is on ID, technique and equipment rather than on the artistic etc.
4:- Free Stock Library where images are free to registered bodies.

The two galleries above are strictly for UK species only

How does it work?
Photographers wishing to submit an image in which the subject is known simply upload the image to the relevant gallery section. If the subject is not known or uncertain then the image is uploaded into the Awaiting ID section of the gallery. This applies to both the flora and fauna galleries.
Images of unknown subjects can be linked into the What is it section of the forum.
Once an accurate identification is made then the image is moved from the Awaiting ID section to the correct place in the gallery.
Sounds oh so simple :)
For details of file sizes, procedures etc register with the forum and read the Getting Started at PoN posts.
Happy snapping.

If Phocus On doesn't do it for you then can I recommend my own personal favourite natural world photography site - run by Philip Tulin in the USA - Outdoor Eyes
You will find the links in the top right corner but heres a list of what is available on the site at the moment.
